Measurement of femtosecond pulse shapes via ionization of air

Abstract

In summary, we have demonstrated a new method for the characterization of ultrashort pulses which can be easily implemented and which is particularly well suited to high intensity lasers. It is shown that it is possible to simply determine the temporal shape of femtosecond pulses using plasma-induced cross-phase modulation in ionized air.
