Transient growth of energy and aeroelastic stability of ground vehicles

Abstract : Transient growth of energy is shown to be possible in the lateral dynamics of passenger cars. This mechanism might be generated during one vehicle overtaking another. Starting from a simple linearized quasi-steady model, which couples the lateral displacement and the yaw angle of the vehicle, the transient growth appears when an initial condition in the yawing rate is applied.
