Migration and interaction of droplets subject to uniform electric and magnetic fields
Abstract
This paper examines droplet-droplet interactions in electro-magneto- phoresis. This is asymptotically achieved for two distant and conducting spherical droplets immersed in a conducting liquid and subject to uniform electric and magnetic fields. The work assumes small Reynolds and Hartmann numbers and establishes the asymptotics for net hydrodynamic and electromagnetic forces acting on the droplets and each droplet's velocity by resorting to the widely-employed method of reflections. Droplet-droplet interactions are then found to deeply depend upon the addressed quantity and the 2-droplet cluster's orientation with respect to the applied electric and magnetic fields. © 2010 Civil-Comp Press.
